There will be over 80 different organizations participating in this year’s parade.
Agriculture is still the number one industry here in Cortland County and dairy farming is the largest sector within local agriculture.
Following the parade, the crowning of the dairy Princess will take place on the steps of the County Courthouse. There are four contestants vying for this year’s Cortland County Dairy Princess title, they include Alyx Kirchner of Freetown, Danielle Angell of East Homer, Rebecca Eichorst of Truxton, and Mikayla MacNeill of Homer.
Yesterday the Cortland County Dairy promotion committee kicked off dairy month with the presentation of the annual warm hands award which is given to someone who has supported the local dairy industry. This year’s winner is Patty Knapp, a local farmer and longtime committee person. Knapp was shocked when she received the honor Monday.
