SUNY Cortland Selected For New
SUNY Cortland has been selected as a new hub for a new state education program.
Governor Andrew Cuomo announced this week that SUNY Cortland is one of four schools that have been selected for the Master Teacher Program. The initiative provides incentives to high-performing teachers who stay in New York and share their expertise.
SUNY Cortland President Erik Bitterbaum says the program will offer $15,000 a year to "highly-effective" math and science teachers for mentoring new and future teachers.
SUNY Cortland has the largest accredited teacher-education program in the state and is well known for graduating well educated teachers, Bitterbaum says this new program will increase the College’s profile and improve the quality of new teachers.
The application process to become a master teacher begins July 1.
Applicants for the Master Teacher program must be:
-Currently employed as a teacher in New York, with a minimum of four years teaching experience

-Able to demonstrate receipt of an undergraduate degree (in any subject) and a master's degree in education from an accredited public or private institution
