Ithaca Awarded $200k to Fund Clean-up of Ithaca Gun Site
The Federal Environmental Protection Agency has awarded the City of Ithaca a $200,000 grant to help fund plans the clean-up and reuse the former Ithaca Gun site overlooking Ithaca Falls.
The money comes from the federal Brownfield’s Program which provides money to clean-up and revitalize contaminated former industrial sites.
The City of Ithaca will use the funds to repurpose the roughly 1 acre site by cleaning up the environmental contamination which includes heavy amounts of lead. Future plans for the site include developing a public park and creating housing.
The reclamation will include excavating contaminated soils, removing lead in subsurface soils through liming, and using a clay and geosynthetic cap on portions of the site.
