Cortland School Board Adopts $45.3 Million Dollar Budget, Taxes Would Go up 3%

The Cortland School Board has adopted a $45.3 million dollar budget for the upcoming school year, the budget if approved by voters would increase taxes just under 3%.
In a unanimous vote Tuesday night the City School Board approved the tentative budget, the proposal increases spending by less than one percent over the current budget, which is about $176 thousand dollars more than the current year.
The district is proposing to use $3.3 million in reserves to close a $3.5 million dollar deficit in the budget, in addition to increasing the tax levy by $456 thousand dollars.
The proposed budget does not call for any layoffs or program cuts. The public hearing for the Cortland City School budget is set for May 7th, with the budget vote on May 21st.
