DeRuyter Community Mourning the Death of School Employee Killed by Her Husband
DeRuyter Central Schools and the DeRuyter Library were closed today following an armed stand-off that has left a husband and wife dead; the victims of an apparent murder-suicide.
State Police responded to the home of Edward and Michele Green around 10:30 Sunday night, after the couple’s son called saying he could not reach his parents.
When Troopers got to the scene, they caught a glimpse of 48 year old Edward Green in a mud room armed with a shotgun.
They withdrew from the home and surrounded it. Moments later they heard gunshots, officers waited for nearly seven hours, they sent a robot into the home once it was deemed safe they entered the home around 4:30 this morning and found the couple’s bodies.
The Green’s home is located near on Seminary Street near the DeRuyter School. Classes were canceled today and classes will be delayed two hours on Tuesday.
Michele Green was a high school guidance assistant. Earlier today nearly 100 people gathered to mourn Green at the United Church of DeRuyter.
