Local Village Elections Feature a Few Contested Races
Residents in Villages across New York head to the polls today to choose who will lead the communities.
Here in Cortland County there are contested races in the Villages of Homer and McGraw, in Marathon the incumbents are running unopposed.
 
In the Village of McGraw incumbent Mayor Robert Martin is running for reelection, he faces a challenge from trustee Allan Stauber.
 
In Homer Republican Mayor Genevieve Suits is running for reelection unopposed, she is completing her first term.

Incumbent Republican trustees Andy Brush and Kevin Slack are running for reelection, democratic challenger Alexandra Mulvihill is also running for a seat on the board.
 
In Marathon Mayor John Pittman is running on the Republican and democratic lines, Republican trustees William P McGovern and Patricia McConnell are running for reelection unopposed.
 
Polls will be open from noon until 9 p.m. Tuesday. In the Village of Dryden, incumbent Republican Mayor Randy Sterling, is facing a challenge from Democrat James Zimmer.
 
Democrats Lisa Valentinelli and Michael Murphy are running for seats on the Dryden Village Board Republicans Daniel Wakeman and incumbent Paul Rachetta are also running.
 
Two candidates are running to fill a one-year term on the Dryden village board, Mary Ellen Bossack is running on the Democratic and Protecting Dryden lines. Michael Hattery is running on the Republican ticket.
 
In Groton, Mayor Jeffrey Evener is running unopposed for another two-year term in office.
 
There is a contested race for Village Trustee in Groton. Incumbent Elizabeth Conger and candidate Michael Holl are running on the Republican line. Michelle Stewart and Faith Tyler are running on the Democratic ticket. 
 
In Freeville, incumbent trustees Jason Cuykendall and David Fogel are running unopposed for office.

Voters in Cayuga Heights will decide a trustee race, incumbent Trustee Stephen Hamilton is running for another term; Richard Robinson and Peter Salton are also running.
 
Again polls are open from Noon to 9 today.
