Cortland County Legislative Committee Formed to Respond to NYS SAFE ACT
Cortland County Legislative Chair Mike Park has formed a committee to develop a response to the recently adopted NY Safe Act that imposes new regulations on gun owners.

Last week Democratic County Legislator Kathy Arnold introduced a resolution that calls on the New York State Legislature to look at amending the newly adopted state gun laws. Arnold who represents the towns of Truxton, Cuyler, and Solon says after speaking with some of her constituents, and reviewing some of the provisions of the new gun law herself; she has found several issues that she feels will not improve public safety but do negatively impact law abiding gun owners.

Legislator Larry Cornell has also presented a resolution calling for the repeal of the new gun laws, Cornell says several of his constituents are opposed to the new regulations.

Lawmaker Tony Pace says he hopes the committee can focus its attention on the unfunded mandates the state has included in the measure rather than whole sale repeal, which is unlikely at this point. Some counties have voted in favor of a full repeal of the law.

The committee is supposed to have a proposal in front of the full legislature for a vote by Thursday the 28th which is the next full legislative session.
