Cortland County Legislature Asks Wind Developer to Submit Plans to Towns
The Cortland County Legislature has once again voted to reject the draft environmental review for a proposed industrial wind farm that is looking to locate in the county.

In a unanimous vote last night lawmakers once again said that that T-C-I Renewables environmental assessment needs more work and there are still unanswered questions or missing information that needs to be addressed before the document is released for public comment.
The latest rejection was based primarily on the ongoing concerns about the wind turbines potential impact on the counties new $16 million dollar emergency communications network.
Engineers for the county and the project sponsor both agreed that the turbines could potentially interfere with the radio system, but that the problem could be remedied.
T-C-I is looking to place nearly 50, 500 foot tall power generating turbines on land in the Towns of Cortlandville, Solon, Truxton, and Homer. The proposal has divided landowners and neighbors, those in support of the $200 million dollar project see it was a way to generate clean renewable energy and potentially offset rising tax burdens with lease and pilot payments. While those against the heavily subsidized project see it degrading property values and not providing a reliable energy alternative.
In a related vote, the legislator unanimously endorsed a request that calls on T-C-I to formally submit applications for the project to the four impacted towns so town officials can begin to get a better understanding of the project.
Legislator Kathy Arnold says the towns where these towers would be placed really have not been actively involved in the project up to this point.
In previous interviews T-C-I representative Brett O’Conner has said the company remains committed to at least moving the environmental review forward and getting the public feedback on the project.
