Cortland & Marathon Schools to Receive Less Aide in Proposed State Budget
Governor Andrew Cuomo released his proposed budget Tuesday, the $136 billion dollar spending plan increases state aid to schools, but some districts here in Cortland County are actually slated to receive less aid this year.
The Cortland City School District which serves some of the neediest students in the county is poised to receive .34% less in state aid this year, the Marathon school district is targeted to recive.75% less in aide.
All other schools in the county would see a boost in aide, McGraw would see an increase of just over 12% increase, Homer would get just over 2% more, and Cincinnatus would get almost 4% more.
The figures do not include building project or building reorganization aid.
School leaders have said without additional aide they are facing deep cuts, some districts have indicated they may run out of money without additional state support or reductions in state mandates.
