Cortland County Police Release Names of Vicitms in LaPeer Fatal Crash
A Broome County teen was killed and a Marathon teen was seriously injured in a two vehicle crash in the Cortland County Town of LaPeer yesterday afternoon.
Cortland County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the crash just before 3:30 Monday afternoon, police say 19 year old Kelcie Spicer of Killawog was driving a 1999 Mercury Cougar westbound on Route 221 near the intersection of Clarks Corners Road, when she lost control on the snow-covered roadway. Spicer’s car crossed the center line and was struck by a 2001 International Harvester panel truck.
Rescuers on the scene reported that Spicer was trapped inside the vehicle and first responders reported that she had no pulse. The young woman was transported to Cortland Regional Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead.
A passenger in the Mercury 19 year old Kyle Dougherty of Marathon was transported to Wilson Medical Center in Binghamton, with serious injuries; he is listed in good condition. Neither the driver of the truck 60 year old Roy Backus of Richford or his passenger 26 year old Ryan Gaylord from Horseheads were injured.
Spicer is a 2012 graduate of Marathon High school.
The Marathon Fire Department, Marathon Ambulance, Dryden Ambulance, all responded to the scene. Police did not issue any tickets in the crash.
