$125,000 Coming To Two Area Fire Departments
The City of Cortland and Town of Virgil Fire Departments will benefit from over $125 thousand dollars in federal funding, the money will be used for new safety gear for the firefighters.

U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer announced Friday that the City of Cortland Fire Department will receive nearly $41 thousand dollars to update equipment used to rescue trapped firefighters including new ropes, saws and alarm-activated locater equipment.

The Virgil Fire Department will receive nearly $85 thousand dollars in grant funding to replace 20-year-old firefighter breathing devices.

Schumer was a sponsor of the legislation that led to the creation of this grant-funding program for local governments and fire departments to help defray the rising costs of equipment and fire prevention.
