$4 Million in State Funds Available to Study Municipal Consolidation
Wednesday, January 2, 2013
Local municipalities have a chance to apply for up to $200 thousand dollars to study consolidation of services or other ways to reduce the cost of providing services to local tax payers.
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has announced that there is $4 million dollars available through the Local Government Efficiency Grant Program to help local governments find innovative ways to reduce costs and save taxpayer dollars through consolidation and reorganization.
The competitive program is part of the Governor’s agenda to reduce property taxes and shrink the size of government.
Since the program’s inception, over 350 projects have been funded with a projected savings of over $550 million.
Applications must demonstrate financial savings to the local government and its taxpayers, a positive return on public investment, and progressive and measurable management improvements resulting from project implementation. The submission deadline for the Local Government Efficiency Grant is 4:00 p.m. on March 13, 2013.
