Today is expected to be the busiest day of the year at the Post Office.
Last year, 1.7 million pieces of mail were processed locally on the Monday before the last weekend before Christmas. 365 million packages were shipped last year alone in the holiday season.
Postal officials say they will have extra trucks to make extra runs to the mail boxes today. Postal officials remind customer who want to send their packages by priority or express mail, free boxes are available at the Post Pffice.
You can print the postage from your computer at USPS.com and pay 15 percent less. You can make a reservation with the carrier and have them pick up your package for delivery when they drop off the mail. You get a better price and will skip the trip to the Post Office.
The Postal service suggests mailing early today to avoid long lines and have packages properly addressed and sealed. The deadline for mailing letters and priority mail packages for delivery by Christmas is Friday.
