The lights will be back on Main Street to ring the New Year, the Down town partnership has secured funding and support from the City of Cortland to bring back the New Year’s celebration on Main Street.

After a one year hiatus and several concerned phone calls Cortland Downtown Partnership Director Adam MeGivern has rallied a group of local sponsors and is bring back a slightly revamped New Year’s party for Cortland’s Main Street.

The event has been renamed First Light, to avoid any copyright infringement issues, in addition to the fireworks, music, and traditional ball drop. MeGivern has secured a large movie screen and is working with Time Warner Cable to broadcast the Times Square Ball Drop so that Cortland’s event can be synchronized.

Major sponsors for the New Year’s celebration include Coffee Mania and Crown City Guns & Ammo. Additional support is being provided by College Suites, Time Warner Cable, the Cortland County Restaurant & Tavern Association, Cortland County Community Service Club, and the Royal Auto Group.
