A Cortland man who was arrested in connection with a plot to smuggle meth into the Cortland County Jail appeared in court yesterday where he pled not guilty to the charges against him.
22-year-old Tomas Kaiser of 3078 Page Green Road, Cortlandville was indicted earlier this month by a Cortland County Grand Jury charging him with felony counts of criminal sale of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a controlled substance, unlawful manufacture of meth, and criminal possession of the precursors of meth.
Back on August 28th 21-year-old Kate Lynne Thomas of 514 Warren Rd. Ithaca, is accused of trying to sneak meth into the county jail.
During the investigation police learned that Thomas was being assisted in the smuggling attempt. Officers went out into the parking lot of the Public Safety Building where they arrested Kaiser, 24 year old Justin Farley and 23-year-old Kara Smithgall both of Endicott.
A search of Thomas’s vehicle turned up all the components and equipment to make methamphetamine. A small quantity of the drug was also located in the vehicle.
Thomas still has charges outstanding charges against her in connection with a meth lab found at 95 Maple Avenue.
If Tomas is convicted of the most serious charge he faces 5 to 15 years in state prison.
