Cortland Man Accused of Setting Fire While High on Drugs
A Cortland man was arrested Tuesday after he set fire to a pile of leaves outside his home and then began to run around the flaming pile screaming.

Cortland City Police say 31 year old John Benjamin of 42 Hubbard Street was under the influence of drugs when he started the fire.
Police arrived on the scene around 4 o’clock Tuesday, they found the fire burning close to the house there. Officers were able to put the fire out before it caused any damage.
Benjamin was taken to the City Police station where he is accused of spitting on the floor repeatedly. Benjamin was charged with disorderly conduct and criminal tampering, a misdemeanor. Benjamin was released and is due back in court next month.

Police did not know what drugs Benjamin had consumed.
