SUNY Cortland Study: 2012 Jets Training Camp Generated $5.5 Million Impact
The New York Jets 2012 Summer Training Camp generated more than $5.5 million in economic activity for Cortland County.

That’s according, to an economic impact study conducted by three SUNY Cortland faculty members.

The economic impact is 300 thousand dollars less than the Jets 2010 Training Camp. Despite the fact that there were half as many practices, and there were 5 thousand fewer attendees at the training sessions.

The study says training camp spectators from 36 different states and two Canadian Provinces dumped $2.6 million into the local economy during the two and half week long camp.

Cortland County residents made up 14 percent of the visitors to the camp while spectators from adjacent counties - Broome, Cayuga, Chenango, Madison, Onondaga, Tioga and Tompkins - contributed 37 percent of the camp's total attendance.

Revenue for local hotels increased 11 percent, and room occupancy received a 9.2 percent boost compared to the same time period in 2011 when there was no training camp due to a NFL contract negotiations.

The Jets training camp contract with SUNY Cortland runs through next year, with an option to extend after that.
