Cortland County clerk Elizabeth Larkin is warning residents about a legal deed scam that has resurfaced in the area.
Larkin says the scam, which is legal, involves companies soliciting property owners offering to provide an updated legal deed for their properties for an exorbitant fee.
Larkin says local deeds are on file with the clerk’s office, residents can always obtain copies for a nominal amount. The companies soliciting residents offer to provide the copies for as much as $86 dollars, you can obtain a copy from Larkin’s Office for less than $10 dollars.
