Two Teens Charged With Arson Following Homer Shed Fire
Homer Village Police have charged two teens in connection with a fire that destroyed a storage building Tuesday afternoon.
Around 4:30 pm Tuesday Homer and Cortland firefighters responded to a working structure fire at 56 ½ Cortland Street in the Village.
Upon arrival rescuers found a small outbuilding engulfed in flames. The wooden structure contained a tool shed and an enclosed patio.
Rescuers had the fire under control within a few minutes; the building was about 20 feet from a home there.
Village Police say witnesses reported seeing two teens in the area prior to the fire, one was carrying a gas can.
Police would not identify the two 15 years olds due to their age, investigators say the teens started a fire in a pile of leaves near the shed which borders the railroad tracks, the fire quickly got of control and spread to the building. The two then fled the scene.
Both teens have been charged with a felony count of arson, they will appear in family court on the charges.
The cost of the damage was estimated at several thousand dollars.
