Cortland Sheriff's Department Warns of Email Scam
Officers from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Department would like to alert the public of an email scan circulating the area.

The email claims to be from the FBI saying that the user’s internet address has been linked to illegal online activity and that the user must pay a $200.00 fine to have their device unlocked.  When the user opens this email it locks the device making it virtually unusable.  If this email is opened users should contact a computer specialist to remove the virus.

The Sheriff’s Department is urging people to delete the email immediately, do not pay any money, and do not release any personal information.

For more information regarding this scam or to report an internet scam visit or contact the Sheriff’s Department for assistance at 753-3311.
