Some local teen bands will be performing at the Cortland Youth Bureau this afternoon to raise money to support a long overdue renovation of Cortland’s Wickwire Pool.
From 1pm to 5pm at the Cortland Youth Center on Port Watson Street, local musicians will be jamming in order to keep the community swimming at the more than 60 year old pool on Homer Avenue.
The bands include Living My Last Day, Young Dex, and Chasing Macy. All proceeds will go to Wickwire Pool.
In 2010, an engineering report on the Wickwire Pool found the pool is need of a $1 million dollar makeover in order to continue operations. Repairs include a new pool shell, new pump, and other critical repairs.
In 2011 alone, Wickwire had 15,000 swimmers, many of those children within walking distance of the pool.
The city has applied for a half million-dollar grant to cover the repairs and hopes to hear at the end of this year if the funds will come through.
